Vanessa Stone is a cut paper and collage artist living in Bottesford who uses bold colours and pared down compositions that are inspired by English countryside, townscapes and architectural heritage. Buildings, fields and flowers all appear in Vanessa's collages, which are cut by hand using a scalpel and scissors - she cuts shapes from the surface of paper, letting an image rise to the surface.
Vanessa originally trained in textiles on the only Carpet and Related Textiles degree course in the UK - specialising in textile design before turning to paper cutting in 2008. A pivotal exhibition in Letchworth Garden City where she lived for over 21 years marked the start of her architectural pieces inspired particularly by Cambridge. Her work is published as greetings cards which are stocked in shops and museums in Cambridge, Hertfordshire and in Nottingham too. She has exhibited widely and has pieces in private collections in the UK, Netherlands, Sweden and the USA. Her work can be seen throughout the year at Byard Art in Cambridge.
