Virginia has been working with textiles all her life and learned to use a sewing machine and knit from the age of seven! She studied Fashion and textile Design at university and worked in the fashion industry in London. After some years she worked out that the fashion industry wasn’t quite for her, and took a volunteer role in Guatemala, Central America to support indigenous widows by working with weaving cooperatives after the deaths of their husbands due to a long and brutal civil war.
She carried on working there for some 18 years in international development roles working in Fair Trade
textile product design. After funding challenges meant fewer jobs were available, she trained to teach English as a Secord language and taught in schools there for several years. After a family illness, she moved back to the UK to support an ill relative.
After relocation she worked for the National Trust in roles varying from welcome assistant to museum interpretation and events. She also studied a Masters degree in Museum and Heritage where she learned the value of linking crafts practices to museum collections as a way of interpreting the significance of objects from a heritage collection. She is now returning to her original passion of sharing her creative skills with others through classes, courses and workshops.
She has a passion for the healing benefits of craft making, including the opportunity for social interaction with others wanting to share their time while being creative and for expanding our skillsets helping us have higher self esteem and confidence in ourselves.
